Keeping our hopes alive in the grace and glory that the Spirit of God brings to us.
As the seconds tick away on this Friday, I'm reminded of the importance of living in the present moment. It's easy to get caught up in worries about the past or anxieties about the future, but Scripture encourages us to focus on the here and now. As the apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 5:16-17, "Making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is."
In a world that can often feel overwhelming and uncertain, it's essential to keep our hopes alive in the grace and glory that the Spirit of God brings to us. As Paul writes in Ephesians 3:20-21, "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!" By fixing our eyes on God's power and glory, we can live with joy and hope, regardless of our circumstances.
So as I look away from the past and focus on the present, I'm reminded to enjoy the simple things in life – like a good rest in my bed – and to look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead, like my workout this afternoon. By living in the present and trusting in God's goodness, I can experience the fullness of joy that Paul writes about in Ephesians 5:18-20, "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord."
